Welcome to the What's New portion of the website. This portion of the site is dedicated to keeping AVSA members and affiliates informed and what's new with the website and with AVSA. Date: 6/25/2008 What's new: A new page "Forms, Manuals & Reports" has been added to the website. (See navigation bar on the left.) This page contains all forms, manuals and reports which were removed from the "Library" page, plus forms found on other pages. Members now have these items grouped seperately for their convenience. Notice also that the Judges' Forum has been discontinued as it received very little use in the past. Regards Who Submitted: Jim Owens Date: 7/30/2007 What's new: Notice to membership:It has come to our attention that the genus Saintpaulia has been reviewed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in a booklet titled "Flora of Tropical East African Gesnericeae", published in 2006. Jeff Smith who monitors this area for us relates that the number of species has been reduced to a much smaller number than previously described, with many subspecies identified. The taxonomic review was based on DNA studies and significant field collections. Jeff Smith is making inquiries and will report details in the November 2007 issue of the African Violet Magazine. Additionally, other affected committees including Registration and Shows and Judges are currently addressing the effect that this will have on their areas.
