The 2008 AVSA Convention in Tulsa is over, and the list of winners from the
62nd annual show are listed in this issue. Read the list of winners and their
award winning entries on page 14.
Sue Gardner asks, " Does Your African Violet Have Healthy Foliage?" on page 23.
Sue explains how to assess leaf shape and growth pattern when selecting
plants for your collection, and basic points to follow for optimum growing conditions.
On page 40, Mary S. Schaeffer shares her experiences in "Growing African Violets When
it's Cold Outside." Although her experience was quite by accident, Mary learned how growing
under colder conditions affected her blossoms, roots, and color.
Our "In Search of New Violets" columnist, Dr. Jeff Smith, added some interesting color photos to his column this time.
If you grow chimeras, you are probably familiar with their instability and the way they can produce "sports" through
suckers. On page 12 and 13, see a photo of that gorgeous plant, "Yokako", and three of it's most interesting,
and colorful, sports.

The AVSA website is in need of improvements. It is estimated that it will take $30,000 to take care of security
issues and provide full service to members. It isn't possible with our current
budget. Your help is needed. A campaign to raise the money has
begun with the "thermometer" on the left to track our progress toward the
goal. If you, your club or your members wish to help, please make a
donation to the AVSA Booster Fund and make a note that you wish for your gift
to go to the Web Site Upgrade. Watch the thermometer to see how we are doing!
